For the first time in Ottoi’s memory, hunters used boats during the winter months. “Our ancestors observed periods of warming and cooling,” he says. “It’s hard for us to know what is really happening.” His community will adapt and preserve despite the changes, Ottoi insists. 国家地理的的INS图片-(2020-02-01 19:38:44)Photo by Matthieu Paley @paleyphoto I Wakhi girls like Bibi Hawa and Gul Chera are busy most days. Morning is dedicated to school–they walk 45 minutes to reach it. Coming back home, they may bring young calves to a grazing ground, collect wood along their path, or help their big brother, who cuts hay in the nearby fields. Taken in Afghanistan's Wakhan Corridor. For more cultural encounters and stories about the remote mountain world, please visit @paleyphoto.

Juma’s father has depleted most of his wealth–his livestock–bartering it for opium. The family has only a few yaks left, along with a horse that young Juma is especially fond of. 国家地理的的INS图片-(2019-11-17 15:39:42)Photo by Michael Melford @michaelmelford | Turquoise waters surround the remote island of Socotra, Yemen. I was on assignment to photograph the beauty and high numbers of endemic species that led to it being recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008. I was here when the Arab Spring started up, and while I was not in fear on this peaceful, remote island, I was concerned about transiting through Sana’a, which like most of the Arab world was in turmoil. I made it home, and hope to return again one day to Socotra. #yemen #socotra #endemic #nature

She will begin to learn about her vast home range and the sights and smells that will become her life for years to come. She will learn from her parents how to survive in this harsh environment, and eventually how to hunt the mighty musk oxen. To see more images of arctic wolves visit @ronan_donovan

NASA的的INS图片-(2017-09-03 10:59:01)NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, who set multiple U.S. space records during her mission aboard the International Space Station, along with crewmates Jack Fischer of NASA and Commander Fyodor Yurchikhin of Roscosmos, safely landed on Earth Saturday at 9:21 p.m. EDT (7:21 a.m. Kazakhstan time, Sept. 3), southeast of the remote town of Dzhezkazgan in Kazakhstan.
While living and working aboard the world’s only orbiting laboratory, Whitson and Fischer contributed to hundreds of experiments in biology, biotechnology, physical science and Earth science, welcomed several cargo spacecraft delivering tons of supplies and research experiments, and conducted a combined six spacewalks to perform maintenance and upgrades to the station.
